Our last library talk of 2023

Maps: windows into the history of our suburbs and homes.

The State Library of Queensland has a special collection of digitised maps that real estate firms created and used to emphasise the value of property and promote sales. Sometimes works of art, they show what was important to buyers at the time and how land was being purchased and subdivided over time for homes and farms.

The presenter, Stephanie Ryan, is a Research Librarian at State Library of Queensland. She writes blogs and articles, and also gives presentations for societies, libraries and the general public demonstrating the value of the Library’s resources which are increasingly online and accessible.
