Odeon Theatre (former site), 664-676 Ipswich Road, Annerley

The Odeon Theatre situated at the corner of Ipswich Road and Devon Street, opened on 28 October 1938 with the screening of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.[1] It was a large theatre with seating for 1,000 patrons provided in the form of 750 cushioned seats and 250 canvas chairs.[2]  The theatre incorporated the latest RCA Photophone sound system and projection equipment that provided consistent levels of illumination.3

The Odeon was the last of the theatres erected in Annerley. It was preceded by the Annerley Picture Theatre (1914) and the Boomerang Theatre (1924). Since the closure of the Odeon in the early 1960s the building has been used for a variety of purposes.
